A Brief BIOGRAPHY of Ian Kingsley

I have written for a living for most of my life, albeit mainly technical material. My ambition was always to concentrate on fiction. I am a Christian and - unusually - my faith has stemmed from an active exploration of the evidence, from the days when I was an agnostic working in the field of science. I determined to prove or disprove to myself whether there was a God. Thankfully, using logic and scientific analysis, this resulted in me ‘proving’ it. So I have a really strong faith which I like to share, and this is reflected in written works and through my local community radio broadcasting.

About my Fiction
When it comes to novels, I believe it is the characters that are most likely to make people remember them. If a reader identifies closely with a character it makes a tremendous impact. If they care about the protagonist, for example, it keeps the pages turning to find out what happens to them. So I try to create really memorable characters, and by knowing them well as a writer, this leads to natural plot development. I am drawn to mystery and psychological thrillers because they put you right into the mindset of people who find themselves emotionally challenged, and that adds spice, pace and direction to a novel. Put these together and you have memorable characters driven by realistic plots, and a tightness of prose devoid of unnecessary diversions and ramblings. I think every word should, in some way, contribute to plot development.
The other thing I believe to be really important is the feeling the characters move in realistic settings, and I achieve this by using places I actually know. I try to achieve this without authorial intrusion. (So ‘purple prose’ is a no-no!) Hopefully, all this is a combination that will bring you some entertaining reads. Most authors make very little money from writing these days, so your recommendations are highly valued, and I really thank you for your feedback and time. About my Non-Fiction
My non-fiction centres on my belief that there are no insurmountable conflicts between science and religion. ‘Reality Check: Science Meets Religion’ is key to that, and ‘Heaven - Lost and Found’ is a free extract aiming to show it is perfectly within the bounds of science to postulate the realm - or world(s) - of Heaven exist in a single space-time continuum that includes our visible universe.
