BOOKS SUMMARY

My novels always have real settings, and two of them are set in and around Christchurch and Poole, in the beautiful Bournemouth area of the UK, where I live.

I believe that when you've read a really good novel, it is the characters you remember more than the plot. That's because you readily identify with people. Quite often characterisation is not given so much attention by thriller writers, but I feel that is a lost opportunity in deeply engaging the reader. If truth be told, many novelists specialise in either plot or character, and write accordingly: fiendish plots with lightweight characters, or practically non-existent, rambing plots, but with solid characters. If you don't have a plot, and write as ideas come to you, the result is bound to be rambling. But if you structure a detailed plot, the writing has focus, because it must take a planned journey. And that is the kind of book I enjoy writing:  strong characters deeply entwined within the plot. I believe that all the characters should help carry the plot forward in some way - otherwise they don't deserve a role in the story.

I aim to create memorable principal characters in all  my fiction. I focus on thrillers and quest novels because a good plot drives a story forward, and there is less excuse to wander. The combination of good characterisation and strong plot bring  synergy to a story that should lead to a page-turning result. I do hope that is what you find with my novels.

As for non-fiction, in this I always aim to be as clear and concise as possible in order to get my ideas across. I was responsible for technical manuals for the army and navy for a very long time, so I had plenty of practice at that!

FICTION

Sandman

Picture
A gripping psychological read with characters that reach out and grab you. A real page-turner.
--Sophie King
Set on Mudeford Sandbank, and in Stanpit, Christchurch and Hengistbury Head
How would you cope if a member of your family was murdered, you were being intimidated by the person you believe is responsible, and then the police accused you of the murder?

This novel shows how the fragility of family life can be thrown completely off-course as a result of over-reacting to an intimidating event.

This psychological/mystery thriller is set in Christchurch and Bournemouth, in the UK, and particularly on Hengistbury Head and Mudeford Sandbank.

The Grave Concerns of Jennifer Lloyd

Picture
A fine melding of mystery thriller and contemporary fiction, but refreshingly free of the clichés of either.
--Stephan J Myers
Set in Christchurch and surrounding area
Jennifer was abandoned by her father at a young age and was sexually assaulted in a children's home. But through these hard times she has outwardly become feisty and self-assured - yet beneath all that, she is a vulnerable girl. Understand why she is willing to take risks when exposing a murderer on television in order to enhance her career as a fledgling TV presenter. Sympathise with her inclination not to trust men or to get deeply involved in any male relationship. Be her friend through difficult times.

This twisty mystery thriller is set in Christchurch and Bournemouth, in the UK.

Flying a Kite

Picture
This wonderful, well-written and entertaining novel... will no doubt open many minds.
—William Roache, MBE
Set in Bath, Europe and USA.
If you read '
The Shack' you should now read THIS!
Imagine a graduate dropping out theology because of waning faith - and then being approached by a dying multi-millionaire who offers him the chance of a £1M prize if he can convincingly prove or disprove the existence of God and Heaven? It could be a win-win situation, given this powerful incentive to bring science and logic to the argument. Working at two levels - an adventure story and a theological quest - it has been said this novel combines the rich characterisation of Peter Carey with the spiritual probing of C. S. Lewis. Or, looked at another way, imagine a blending of a more conventional version of The Shack with The deepness of The Celestine Prophecy.

This innovative quest novel is principally set in Bath, UK, but also features locations in Rome, Lake Garda, Tenerife, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.

NON-FICTION

Reality Check:
Science Meets Religion

Picture
This accessible, thought-provoking and entertaining book reconciles religion and science in the modern world. It ratifies enigmas such as creation versus evolution and God's position when disaster strikes. It shows the logic of life after death and even how modern scientific theory may explain the location of Heaven.

If you sometimes struggle with conflicts between your religious beliefs and science, this book may help to resolve those problems. And if you never imagined there was a sound logical argument for belief in God then this book might just prove to be your godsend.

Heaven:
Lost and Found

Picture
If you knew Heaven existed, wouldn’t you like to be a part of it after your life on earth expired?

In biblical times, some 2,000 years ago, people imagined Heaven was a place somewhere up in the clouds, but that's hardly a convincing argument today. So what is? Read this FREE eBook to find out.

If you enjoy this book, buy Reality Check: Science Meets Religion, for a much more comprehensive treatment of how modern science can provide a foundation for belief in God.
